MMCA | what’s new in modern art

Love the art scene in Seoul? I’m with you. I like to prepare, research, gear up and eat well right before heading to a new exhibit at a museum or gallery hopping in this crazy cool city. So when I headed out to see what was new at the MMCA in January, and I expected to be wowed. Just like the time I went before.  the day began Being excitable, and more than a little hungry, I decided the first stop needed to be food. Luckily as I walked down Yulgok-ro, a wonderfully pushy ajumma summoned me into her mandu restaurant where I promptly ordered this beauty : Honestly, I didn’t have much choice. She was very persuasive. Next, I cut through the alleys to get to the MMCA from the back, where I met this beautiful view. I admit, sometimes at modern art museums, you can be thoroughly underwhelmed or even walk away uncomfortable and confused. The first exhibit was a hipster spectacular about food called Activating the City: Urban Gastronomy. They had some information …

Dreaming of a Facelift

…on my apartment, of course!  Today I started thinking about some updates to my boring apartment. The look has been pretty constant for a while and all the furniture I have inside it (save my for baby couch) was given to me by the school and U-G-L-Y. So I think its time to really start thinking about ways to update it to feel more inspired.  Here’s what I’m thinking: wardrobe |  sheets  |  tray sidetable  |  clock  |  circular table  |  tulip chair I need more space and airiness in the apartment so I’ve decided to get rid of the rectangular, brown dining table with two chairs and replace it with a smaller, circular table with a white tulip chair. It should give me more room and I can use it more for a desk than a kitchen table.  I need a bigger, newer wardrobe because the one I have is falling apart and there are few words to describe how unfortunate looking it is.  Sheets are needed as well…my newest sheets are two years …

The DDP | Dongdaemun Design Plaza

A few little pieces from the new DDP in Dongdaemun. I did love most of the exhibits but here are a few notes: 1. To see their main exhibit, The Treasures of Kansong, we would have had to wait over an hour. So get there earlier than we did! 2. It is very confusing moving from one exhibit to another. My advice is to ask where to go next at each exhibit when you are leaving. It will save a lot of headache. But, once you walk around it really feels like walking in the future. It’s beautiful and sleek. I hear there was controversy while building this plaza. Why fight it, people? This is what the movies have said that buildings of the future will look like and its awesome.         See more pictures at my Flickr page! DDP: Dongdaemun Design Plaza

Inspiration: Cityscape

I recently decided my apartment was too drab for human habitation. My sister and brother in law were coming thousands of miles from the USA to visit me in Korea and I knew they would visit my apartment at least once.  I needed some inspiration. My apartment is a simple shoebox. I really do love it but its quite small and the furniture is provided by my company. I hate almost everything they gave me, but,  since I love to eat and buy expensive foods, I don’t usually have enough money to spend on buying items I already have. These items include the bed, the dining table + chairs, the TV + stand and the closet. I would LOVE to replace all of them. As that is not an option right now, I decided a little low maintenance facelift was in order. Taking inspiration (almost a replica) of some designs I found on this beautiful site, I created some masking tape deco for my wall.  I did not, in fact, measure. I am a lazy …
