Daytripping | Chinatown

  The only official “Chinatown” in Korea is located in Incheon and takes a long, boring ride on the subway to get out there. It’s a full on tourist destination and it has a quintessential selfie tourist trap, the barf-worthy Fairytale Village. But, as much as those things irk me, and they do, don’t let it stop you from heading out there just once. It’s an interesting and quirky place. There is a different feel to the area, in no small part due to the different smells and different building styles. There are many restaurants and spots to buy a snack. We found a dim sum restaurant that squelched some cravings I’d been having for weeks. It’s also the birthplace of the ridiculously popular Chinese-Korean dish, Jjajangmyeong. After eating, you can wander around and find a beautiful cafe, like one we found that doubled as a gallery. TLDR: A Brief History The history of the area is…interesting. Lhasa Cafe | Seochon dong

Behind a very nondescript door, to an even nondescript-ior building in Seochon-dong, lies one of the most amazing cafes I’ve ever been to. And we wouldn’t have gone in, but my partner in adventure, Phil, really need a break. Such a lucky break! (#punused #sorrynotsorry) I love Seoul in so many ways, but just randomly finding this treasure trove reminds me why Seoul is just the best. Walking into Lhasa is like walking into an intrepid traveler’s basement full of wonder. You awe at the collection of stuff and dust and quietly wonder if the owner of such goodies is probably a nutjob. The bottom floor has memorabilia and antiques touching every nook and cranny. The small kitchen for coffee, beer or a bit of food is underneath  a large staircase. There are records playing…real records on a turntable. The upstairs remained a mystery for a bit as I drank my beer and admired everything. There was a sign on the stairs that lets patrons know that if you don’t buy something from the cafe, then …

Banana Tree Cafe | Sinsa

If you’re one of those entrepreneurs with brass, umm, knuckles, and have decided to open up a little cafe in Seoul, the land of seemingly endless and charming cafes, you need a little something sparkly to stand out to keep from going under. Banana Tree Cafe in Sinsa found its sparkling star in a pudding dessert dressed up like a clay pot of flowers and you can happily spoon it up with a mini shovel spoon. In America, it’s something similar to dirt pudding except there are no chocolate flavors. (Honestly, they need a chocolate. No special reason, but I really like chocolate.)

Garosugil: Making a To-Eat-There List

HEY, Une Peach readers! I updated this post with new places and included addresses and maps! Check it out here: A Garosugil To Eat There List, Updated! I know this will come as a surprise but…I like to eat.  I mean, I really like to eat. So anytime I go to an area there are a few things I try I find in this order: Coffee Shops with sandwiches and/or breakfast food, restaurants I’ve heard of but never tried or restaurants that look simply amazing at first glance, and grocery stores. It doesn’t even matter what kind of grocery store. If it’s a grocery store I’ve never been in, I’m going in. So before my visit this weekend, I hadn’t been to Garosugil in about a year and I was ready to see what was out and about. I tried to stay off the main drag since it was Saturday and I’m not crazy. Le Brunchic | A Review

  I got it into my head that I just had to try this place after I saw it reviewed on A Fat Girl’s Food Guide to Eating in Korea. I love her blog and all its tidbits about restaurants in Korea as well as recipes. If she liked this brunch, I was pretty confident it was real western food. I only have a couple minor complaints and I’ll just get them out of the way first. This brunch place has amazing decoration. Again, its modern and industrial, like so many of the more trendier places popping up. But there’s not view because its in the basement of a mall. An amazingly beautiful mall. But, a mall nonetheless. Now having googled the restaurant, I see there is a branch in Sinsa-dong on the street level.  I’ll be trying that one next :D. Second, and more importantly, don’t let people order the monstrosity I saw a couple order right next to me.This couple,  who were obviously in the very early stages of dating and super cute, tortured …

Chloris Tea Rooms Gangnam, Seoul This place is huge. Four floors, terrace. Loads of options for tea but also includes coffee, desserts and brunches. Website  Directions: From Sinnonhyeon Station, take exit 4. Turn Right at the first street (Bongeunsa ro 4-gil).  Walk for just a few minutes.
